Meriden Passes Budget with Increase

The budget will come with a slight tax increase.

The Meriden City Council unanimously passed a $187.9 million budget for the next fiscal year.

The budget comes with a 1.5 percent tax increase equal to .89 mills, according to the Record-Journal.

Surrounding municipalities including Wallingford, Cheshire and Southington have proposals for increases between 2 and 3 percent, said City Manager Lawrence Kendzior.

Mayor Manny Santos said the budget isn’t ideal, but comparatively it is better than other municipalities.
