Meriden Police Arrest Woman Who Allegedly Left 3-Year-Old in Cold Car

Police were contacted when someone noticed a small child in a cold car.

Meriden Police have arrested a woman who allegedly left a 3-year-old child inside a vehicle while shopping.

Officers were dispatched to the Stop & Shop at 485 Broad St. around 4:16 p.m. Feb. 19 on a report of an unsupervised child inside a vehicle. They found a 3-year-old boy in a blue Honda Odyssey who was unsupervised, according to police.

The boy was taken from the vehicle and placed in a warm police cruiser.

Police checked surveillance footage and found that Blanca Villagomez, 34, allegedly left her son in the car and entered the store with her 5-year-old daughter. The temperature at the time was 20 degrees.

Villagomez was arrested and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, leaving a child under 12 unsupervised and operation of a motor vehicle without a license.

The Department of Children and Families responded to the scene. Both children were taken to Midstate Medical Center for evaluation.
