MERIDEN, CT — The Meriden Police Department is proud to announce once again that another member of our Meriden Police Cadets program has made us extremely proud. As you all recall, back on November 20th, members of our Cadets program were instrumental in the charitable turkey give-away in which 1,000 turkeys were given to struggling families in need of assistance.

This Thursday, December 23, 2021, the Meriden Police Cadets will once again be springing into action to display the true spirit of giving and to raise the public’s awareness with regards to domestic violence. The cadets will be heading to Boscov’s at the Meriden Mall where they will be purchasing pajamas and other items for the youngest victims of domestic violence that often arrive at the shelter with little more than the clothes they are wearing.

The monies used for the purchase were secured as a result of Meriden Police Cadet Abby Lespier’s efforts. Abby applied for and was awarded grant money which she applied for on behalf of the local Chrysalis Shelter. Abby and the rest of the Cadets will be using the money for the victims who are being assisted by the Chrysalis Shelter and it is Abby and the rest of the Meriden Police Cadet’s hope that this will inspire others within the community to donate to the Chrysalis Shelter this holiday season.

During the grant application process, Abby worked closely with the director of Chrysalis and as a result of her hard work, she was offered an internship at the Chrysalis Shelter. Abby graduated from Maloney High School in Meriden and is now a freshman in college with a 4.0 GPA.
