Meriden Police Department Makes Historic Assignment
The police department announced a historic assignment to its Major Crimes Unit on Tuesday, according to officials.
MERIDEN, CT — Detective Maria Case is the first woman to be assigned to the Meriden Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit in the organization’s history, officials announced on Tuesday.
The Major Crimes Unit is responsible for the investigations of homicides, serious assaults, burglaries, arson, bank robberies, and other serious offenses, according to officials.
“There have been female detectives before Det. Case but she is the first female assigned to the Major Crimes Unit in the history of our organization,” officials wrote in a post on the Meriden Police Department’s Facebook page. “The Meriden Police Department values diversity and this appointment is another example of our actions aligning with our objectives. The goal is for all members of the community we serve to see themselves in our staff. We want all children in this community to know that they can excel and having a female detective investigating major crimes is a mechanism to help them feel empowered. In addition, we believe that it is also important to have different perspectives in the work that we do and we understand the value that diversity can bring to our investigations. Congratulations Det. Case! We are proud of you.”
