Meriden Police Take Additional Steps to Secure Weapons

Several more steps have been added to keep weapons accounted for after two couldn't be accounted for.

Meriden Police have taken steps to account for weapons after an AR-15 and a shotgun couldn’t be accounted for after an audit.

The new program consists of a layered security system including:

  • Coded key fob access into the armory.
  • Locked weapon cabinets
  • Motion activated camera systems.
  • Physical accountability check of the rounteiley signed out weapons by watcher supervisors.
  • Strict sign-out procedures on weapons and ammunition.

The program went into effect on Feb. 19. There will also be quarterly inventory audits and random spot inspections.
