Meriden Resident Named 2023 Gaylord Employee of the Year
Yazmin Ortiz, RN, recognized with peer-nominated honor.
Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, a nonprofit rehabilitation-focused healthcare system headquartered in Wallingford, has named Yazmin Ortiz, RN, of Meriden as the Joseph A. Lindenmayer 2023 Employee of the Year.
A Gaylord Hospital employee since 2017, Ortiz is a unit nurse leader who was nominated by her nurse manager Jillian Mattson, BSN, CRRN.
Calling her “accountable, respectful, and courteous,” Mattson said that Ortiz “holds herself to high standards” and “always chooses to do the right thing, even when doing the right thing isn’t easy.”

“Yazmin creates a warm and welcoming environment for staff and new employees alike, and she goes above and beyond to support her fellow nurses across all shifts,” she said.
“Yaz’s actions exemplify Gaylord’s values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence and reflect her deep investment in the wellbeing of her patients and Gaylord Hospital.”

Calling the award an honor, Ortiz explained that being a nurse has always been her lifelong dream.
“I am passionate about supporting my patients and their families through every step in their recovery journeys. Having the ability to treat them both medically - and holistically - is the most fulfilling part of my career.”
The Employee of the Year Award was established in 1992 by the family of former Gaylord Hospital patient Joseph A. Lindenmayer. According to his daughter, Josephine L. Gierer, the award acknowledges the kindness returned to her father by Gaylord employees.
