Meriden Resident Wins CT Lottery Powerball Prize

His ticket matched four of the five numbers drawn, plus the Powerball number, according to lottery officials.

MERIDEN, CT — Raymond Williams, a Meriden resident and volunteer mentor with a separate full-time job, recently won $100,000 after he stopped by a gas station for an energy drink and decided to purchase a Powerball® ticket as well.

“I didn’t think anything of it,” Williams told Lottery officials. It wasn’t until later that Williams realized a $100,000 Powerball prize was his to claim.

The winning Powerball numbers in the Dec. 3 drawing were -- 8 – 10 – 26 – 27 – 33. The Powerball number was 22 and the Power Play® multiplier was 2. Williams’ Powerball “Quick Pick” ticket matched four of the five numbers drawn, plus the Powerball number. Because his Powerball ticket was Power Played for an extra $1 at the time of purchase, the $50,000 prize was automatically doubled to $100,000.

Williams was overjoyed when he scanned his ticket through the Ticket Checker. “I checked and it popped up! I asked the clerk, ‘Are you sure this is right?’” he said with a laugh.

As an active role model in Middletown, Williams participates in a youth mentoring program and uses basketball to facilitate an outlet. With a busy schedule, Williams still finds a way to donate time and effort to his community. “It’s worth it.”

The lucky winner’s love for basketball extends to his family; Williams plans to treat his children to a Boston Celtics game over the holidays with his winnings. “It’s going to be a good Christmas!”

The winning ticket was sold at Fuel Plus located on 708 Washington Street in Middletown. The odds of winning a Match 4 + Powerball prize are 1 in 913,129.
