Meriden State Senator Will Not Seek Reelection

State Sen. Mary Abrams (D-13) will not seek a third term.

MERIDEN, CT — State Sen. Mary Abrams (D-13) will not seek re-election in 2022, according to The Meriden Record-Journal. The district includes Meriden, Cheshire, Middlefield, and Middletown.

Abrams won in her first run for public office in 2018 and was reelected in 2020.

She described her time serving in the Senate as "a tremendous privilege," according to The Meriden Record-Journal.

Abrams has been absent from the legislative session due to an unspecified illness, The CT Mirror reported. However, a statement from Abrams made no reference to illness or any other reason for not seeking a third term.

Abrams had temporarily stepped down from her role as the co-chair of the Public Health Committee.
