New Details Released As Meriden SWAT Team Deployed: Police

Meriden police provided new details regarding an incident in town on Friday.

MERIDEN, CT — In an update, police said that a man has been taken into custody after an initial standoff on Friday.

At 10 a.m. police received a telephone call that a man was at a Newton Street address in violation of a protective order and in the possession of a firearm, police said.

"It was quickly learned that (he) was listed as a missing person and also had an active warrant for domestic related charges," police said. "Due to the nature of the situation and comments made by the caller, the Meriden SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams were activated.

Police said the man was "initially uncooperative but through persistent negotiations it was determined the only logical decision was to surrender peacefully."

He surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, police said. Police located a facsimile firearm in the home where he had exited, police said.

Original post: MERIDEN, CT — Meriden police are conducting a warrant service in the area of Liberty and Newton streets on Friday afternoon.

Police said the incident is "isolated and under control at this time."

The SWAT team responded, and police are requesting that people stay away from the area until the investigation is done.

Police said more information would be released.
