Meriden Teacher Raises Funds For Fire-Damaged Classroom
The second-grade teacher at Thomas Hooker Elementary School is asking for help to reconstruct her fire-stricken classroom.

MERIDEN, CT - A second-grade teacher at Thomas Hooker Elementary School is asking for the public's help after an electrical fire damaged her classroom Friday. In a GoFundMe post, Melissa Sciarretto said that fire, smoke and water damage has left her classroom almost unrecognizable.
"My classroom does not have traditional classroom seating," she wrote. "Three years ago I transformed my classroom into flexible seating, where students self-select their best spot to learn... I fully believe in student choice to promote engagement and focus. Students discover their own learning style and select the seating choice that best fits them! They have the ability to wiggle, bounce, stand, fidget, and lounge comfortably in the environment that fits their own learning style."
Sciarretto is going intp her twelfth year of teaching and said she needs help getting her classroom back up and running for the new group starting in the fall. Check out her GoFundMe page for more information.
