Meriden Teen Accused Of Breaking Into Vehicles In Westport & Stealing Credit Cards: Police
The vehicles were parked inside the garage of a Westport home, according to authorities.
MERIDEN, CT — A Meriden teenager was arrested on theft of a payment card and related charges last week, after Westport police said he broke into a pair of vehicles at a Westport home and stole credit cards.
William Torres, 18, was additionally charged with sixth-degree larceny, charging less than $500 on a stolen/revoked payment card, and third-degree identity theft, in connection with the Oct. 21, 2025, incident.
Westport police obtained a warrant for Torres', and he surrendered to authorities on Feb. 18.

Police were alerted to the theft last October after the victims began receiving fraud alerts on one of the credit cards.
"These alerts led them to the discovery that both vehicles that had been parked in their garage had been entered overnight," wrote Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso in a statement. "It was believed that the garage door had been left open and that both the vehicles were left unlocked. Taken from one of the vehicles was a wallet containing cash, identification documents and credit cards."

Prezioso said that multiple unauthorized transactions were either made or attempted using the stolen cards, either online or in person, but combined those transactions totaled less than $500.
"Through search warrants for records, one of these unauthorized transactions was determined to have been a Door Dash purchase and delivery to the address of William Torres," Prezioso said, which led to the department obtaining the warrant for the arrest.
Torres was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Friday.
