Meriden's $190.7 Million Budget for 2016-17 Approved by City Council

The budget represents a slight increase to the mill rate.

MERIDEN, CT - Meriden's spending plan for next fiscal year was approved by the City Council at $190.7 million, an amount that reportedly could change depending on what state officials do with Connecticut's budget.

The approved budget represents a slight increase in the mill rate to 37.47 mills and the inner district mill rate to 39.7 mills, write the Meriden Record-Journal. A mill represents $1 for every $1,000 in a property's assessed value.

Among the cuts city officials made in order to keep the tax increase minimal including zero allocation for the city's 4th of July fireworks and a smaller increase in emergency dispatchers.
