Obituary: Alphonse Thomas Izzo, 83, Of Meriden

A talented artist who was happy to lend his gifts to his grandchildren's school projects, he was kind, generous & loved by all who knew him.

MERIDEN, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Alphonse Thomas Izzo, 83, of Meriden, formerly of Wallingford, loving husband of Barbara (Pia) Izzo for 63 years, passed away November 2, 2022 at Connecticut Hospice.

Alphonse was born in New Haven on March 7, 1939, a son of the late John and Antoinette Izzo.

Alphonse (Tom) left school at the age of 16 to provide for his mother and four younger siblings. His devotion to family continued when he married the love of his life and started his own family. His tireless work as a factory floor manager and then as owner of Summit Tile Company gave his wife and children the security and material comfort not afforded to him as a child.

Tom was a talented artist who was happy to lend his gifts to his grandchildren’s school projects. His love of art coincided with a love of nature, and in later years he made a habit of taking daily walks around his neighborhood.

He was kind, generous and loved by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his son, Thomas Izzo and his wife, Karen of Meriden; his daughters, Sue Tozzo of Meriden, Lisa Lubee and her husband, Wes, of Middletown and Cindy Wendt and her husband, Dave, of Wallingford; his sister, Louise Gajewski; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Hatten; his sister, Jessie Severino and his brothers, John and Donald Izzo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated directly at the Church of the Resurrection, 155 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext.
