Obituary: Amelia (DiCioccio) Hanson, 95, Of Meriden

She joined the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and later graduated from the Meriden Hospital School of Nursing.

MERIDEN, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Amelia (DiCioccio) Hanson, 95, of Meriden, wife of the late Harold Hanson, died Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

She was born in Hartford, CT May 22, 1927, daughter of the late Harry and Madeline (Yanelli) DiCioccio and graduated from Hall H.S. in West Hartford. She joined the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II and later graduated from the Meriden Hospital School of Nursing. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Reserves during the Korean War. She continued her career in Nursing at the World War II Veterans’ Memorial Hospital in Meriden for over 40 years until her retirement.

She is survived by her children, Mark, James, Cindy and Mary Dee Hanson and their spouses. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Tom and Pat DiCioccio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 9th, at 10a.m. directly at Our Lady Queen of Angels (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church) in Meriden. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow in the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to: Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, 109 Goodwill Ave, Meriden, CT. 06451. Arrangements are under the Direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
