Obituary: Danette & Kevin Dowd, 57 & 56, Of Meriden

MERIDEN, CT — Danette Ann Dowd, 57, and Kevin Thomas Dowd, 56, of Meriden were born months apart and as young adults they met one another and "quickly fell in love and got married."

The soulmates made their home and raised their two children in Meriden. Their love story concluded in December 2022. Danette Ann Dowd died on Saturday, Dec. 17 and Kevin Thomas Dowd died on Dec. 31, according to obituaries posted by the Wallingford Funeral Home.

Real love stories never end...

Danette Ann Dowd, 57, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in New Haven on October 19, 1965, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Caroline (Klimas) Christopher.

As a young woman, Danette met her soulmate, Kevin. The two quickly fell in love and got married; they made their home and raised their family in Meriden.

Danette is survived by her beloved husband, Kevin Dowd of Meriden; her daughter, Shannon Dowd and her partner, Charles Jackson of Meriden; her son, Tyler Dowd of Meriden; her cherished grandsons, Trustin and Syilias Jackson of Meriden; her sisters, Cindy Smitt of Wallingford and Debra Donaldson of Wallingford; her in-laws, James and Shirley Dowd Jr. of East Haddam; her brothers-in-law and their wives, James and Jennifer Dowd III of Colchester, Andrew and Christine Dowd of Lebanon and Daniel and Emily Dowd of Virginia; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Kevin Thomas Dowd, 56, of Meriden, passed away at home on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Born in New Haven on February 15, 1966, he was a beloved son of James and Shirley (Cari) Dowd Jr. of East Haddam.

Always a hard worker, Kevin was proudest of his accomplishments at his workplace of over 34 years, Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford.

Kevin was known as a kind, warm, loving, caring and generous man. He loved to cook, often making his own recipes from scratch.

Above all, Kevin loved spending quality time with his family, and especially loved being “Poppa” to his cherished grandsons. He also enjoyed fishing and boating with his brothers and sisters-in-law every summer when they would visit beautiful places such as Napa Tree, Pine Island, Bushy Point, Block Island and Flat Hammock to name a few.

In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his daughter, Shannon Dowd of Meriden; his son, Tyler Dowd of Meriden; his grandsons, Trustin and Syilias Jackson of Meriden; his brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Jennifer Dowd III of Colchester, Andrew and Christine Dowd of Lebanon and Daniel and Emily Dowd of Virginia; as well as many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his soulmate, Danette Dowd on December 17, 2022.

Danette & Kevin's family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, January 13 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Burial will be held privately.
