MERIDEN, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Frederick “Ricky” Lawrence Marino Jr., 67, of Meriden, passed suddenly on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Born in Oakville, CT on May 11, 1955, he was a son of the late Frederick Lawrence and Violet Helen (Ciaramella) Marino.

A tremendously talented musician, Fred began his musical career playing accordion at age 10. Quickly mastering that instrument, he moved on to piano, organ, synthesizer, and saxophone, which he played in the Maloney High School band in the early 1970’s. He was also a talented composer and transcriber.

As his popularity grew, he affiliated with various local rock, blues, and dance bands. His musical prowess, versatility and soulful keyboard style earned him his reputation as a “monster” musician.

An avid jazz player, Fred wrote original music for his group “Jazz the Ripper” which he performed and recorded playing a variety of instruments.

By all accounts, Fred was certainly “no slouch” in the music world. (If you knew Fred you would get that joke.)

Fred’s talents, however, were not limited to music. An intuitive perfectionist in all things, he was also an adept mechanic, computer and electronic technician, troubleshooter, and car aficionado.

Humble, honest, hardworking, ethical, and loyal describe this rare man whose sense of humor and kind heart endeared him to all he knew, but especially to his beloved partner, Gail DeLucia of Wallingford.

Fred will be sorely missed and dearly loved into eternity.

Frederick is also survived by his brother, Paul Marino of Northport, FL; his niece, Michelle (Brendan) Feeney of Attleboro, MA; his nephew, James (Victoria) Marino of Portland, CT; his cousin, Craig Lagasse of Waterbury, CT as well as many extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life event will be held on May 28, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hungarian Club, 147 Ward Street, Wallingford, CT.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
