Obituary: Irene L. Jellen-Taylor, 72, of South Meriden

Irene served as a business education teacher for 33 years at both Lyman Hall and Sheehan High Schools.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Irene L. Jellen-Taylor, 72, of South Meriden, went into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

She was born in Meriden on November 29, 1948, and was the youngest daughter of the late Michael and Miriam (Maloney) Jellen.

She was educated at Hanover Elementary and Platt High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from CCSC.

She was a witty, demanding and well-respected business education teacher for 33 years at both Lyman Hall and Sheehan High Schools in Wallingford.

After her retirement from teaching, she worked as an office manager for Catholic Charities in Milford for 10 years.

She is survived by her loving sister, housemate and caregiver, Veronica Jellen; her step-son, Colin “Shem” Taylor and his wife, Lauren; and many cousins, family members and her cats, Jo, Meg and Amy.

She was predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate of 40 years, Walter Taylor, also an educator and jazz pianist.

Interment will be private and at the discretion of the family in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford.
