Obituary: Joan M. Benney, 74; Formerly Of Meriden

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Joan Margaret (Rufleth) Benney, 74, formerly of Meriden, CT, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Water's Edge Center in Middletown. Joan was born on April 9, 1945 in Meriden, CT, and was the youngest of three daughters of the late Herbert and Grace (Massow) Rufleth. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Henry Benney Jr. in 2017, and a sister, Susan Lynch in 2010.

Joan grew up in Wallingford and graduated from Lyman Hall High School and attended Paier Art School. She was employed at Midstate Medical Center as a Transcriptionist for many years.

Joan is survived by her sister, Judith Clarke of Sandpoint, Idaho, cousin Carol DuPlessis, and a niece, Lori Rich in North Carolina. She also will be missed by dear friends Ethel Madley and Linda Citek, both of Wallingford, and Diane Gianetti of Meriden.

Funeral services and burial will be private in the Connecticut State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wallingford Funeral Home.
