MERIDEN, CT — (From Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home): Matthew M. Weigold, 46, of Meriden, passed away on December 14, 2022 at Midstate Medical Center. He was born on February 15, 1976, a son of Robert and Maureen Shaw Weigold. Besides his mother Maureen, Matthew is survived by his sister Barbara Campbell and her husband G.T., and brothers Alan and Robert Weigold. He was predeceased by his father Robert Weigold.

Matthew was a happy and energetic child. The youngest of four children and always looking for attention, he loved to ride snowmobiles in the backyard with his older brothers Rob and Alan, lovingly tease his sister Barb, and loved to fish with his dad on Loon Lake in the Adirondacks.

Matt was always a free spirit and followed his passions. In the 90s, he was fortunate enough to travel the country with Castle Tie Dye on the Further Fest tour and continued his love for music with his undying support and love for Phish. Matt traveled far and wide to see Phish, collecting new friends at each show. Matt was known to quickly make friends everywhere he went and if you were lucky enough to be in that circle, then he considered you to be family.

Matt kept a tight bond with his two best friends from childhood, Jim Vaspasiano and Ted Winterson. So tight that Matt made himself a long-term houseguest of the Wintersons and enjoyed many Christmas Eves with the Vaspasiano family.

Matt had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He often quoted movie lines with his brothers and during his last week in the hospital, recited lines from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. He had many friends from the Village Barn in Meriden and loved to visit with all of them.

Up until a few years ago, Matt worked as a carpenter with Carpenters Local 326. He loved his dog Bear, a fluffy akita that loved to sit with his head out of the passenger side of his car with tunes blaring. In recent years, Matt lived next door to his mom and took pride in thinking that he was taking care of her.
