Obituary: Michael M. Misarski, 46; Formerly Of Meriden

A longtime journalist with the Record-Journal, he was a brilliant editor and good with people. He rose to become assistant managing editor.

WALLINGFORD, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Michael M. Misarski, 46, of Wallingford, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at home after a long struggle with myotonic dystrophy.

He was born Oct. 24, 1976 in New Haven, son of Robert and Ingrid Misarski, and grew up in Meriden. He started writing for the Record-Journal as a freelancer covering high school sports while he was a student at Platt High School. He graduated from Platt in 1994.

Michael attended Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, where he edited the school paper, and worked in Boston before going to work full-time for the Record-Journal in Sept. 2000 on the copy desk. He was a brilliant editor and good with people. He supervised reporters and copy editors at one time, rising to become assistant managing editor.

Michael joined Christ Presbyterian Church, New Haven in 2005 and married Caroline Porter there in 2006. They had a son, Alexander, in 2009.

Michael was a great cook, loved Jesus and loved the New York Giants. He loved fantasy football, starting a private league with a friend in 1989. He loved to hike, travel, and play board games. He had a great sense of humor and loved his cat.

He retired early because of his health in 2022.

In addition to his parents (now of Bluffton, S.C.), wife and son, he is survived by his mother- in-law, Julia Porter of Mystic, his sister-in-law, Alice Porter of Virginia, his brother-in-law, William Porter of Mystic, cousins, Steven Misarski of Massachusetts and Bruce Misarski of New York, and many aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held Saturday Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, 20 N. Whittlesey Ave., Wallingford, with reception to follow there. The Wallingford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation, 663 Thirteenth St., Suite 100, Oakland, CA 94612 or to the church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel DiCapua, Dr. Finbar Foley and the staff on the tenth floor of Yale-New Haven Hospital, Vitas Hospice, and Assisted Living Service of Cheshire.
