Obituary: Olive Lois Conley, 92, Of Meriden

She volunteered at the Meriden Soup Kitchen, participated in the Meriden Community Chorus, and worked at the Meriden YMCA Preschool.

MERIDEN, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Olive Lois Hanley Conley (affectionately known as “Ollie”), 92, passed peacefully at the Connecticut Baptist Home on November 3rd, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 18th, 1930 in Brockton, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Murray Hanley and Marion Shearing Hanley. She graduated from Brockton High School in 1948. She married her high school sweetheart in 1954, and moved to Meriden, Connecticut where she raised her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Conley Bartolotta (James) and Susan Conley Loos (Stephen) of Wallingford. She leaves her grandchildren Brian and Nicole Bartolotta, and Sandi and Greg Zeoli, whom she cherished with all her heart. She also leaves behind three step-grandchildren Eric Loos (Jennifer) of Glastonbury, CT, Sara Camyre (Ryan) of Franklin, MA, and Jenna Boroian (Derek) of Irvine, CA, and four step-great grandchildren; Julian and Camden Loos, and Calvin and Alice Camyre. She is also survived by her sister Kathleen Hanley Coughlan (Ronnie), and her brother Joseph Murray Hanley Jr. (Marie) of Brockton, MA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Lois had a passion for the beach, spending summers with her sisters on the Cape, Aruba, and with her children and grandchildren at White Sands Beach in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Lois also loved her time on the golf course, especially playing in the Ned Conley Memorial Open for several years. She was particularly proud of her volunteer work at the Meriden Soup Kitchen as well as her participation in the Meriden Community Chorus. She also earned her teacher aid certificate from Briarwood College, and worked at the Meriden YMCA Preschool for several years.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Edward Francis Conley, her son Edward (Ned) Conley, her sisters Mary Rose Giles, Geraldine “Chickie” Fortier, Patricia Mulligan, Ruth McNeill, And Dorothy “Dottie” Liberator. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden for their exceptional care.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT, on Friday, November 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 12 at 10 a.m. directly at Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford. Interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lois’ name to Susan G Komen Breast Cancer organization (www.komen.org), as she was a breast cancer survivor for 25 years.
