Obituary: Robert J. Olayos Sr., 86, Of Meriden

MERIDEN, CT — (From Wallingford Funeral Home): Robert J. Olayos Sr., 86, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Cotrona) Olayos of 60 years.

Bob was born in Wallingford, September 16, 1935, a son of the late Stephen A. and Irene (Koczak) Olayos. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves and had a long career as a skilled mason having worked for the union and as the proprietor of Olayos and Sons. He cherished spending time at the home his family built in Vermont with family and friends and was a member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, the Knights Templar, the American Legion and the Shriners International.

In addition to his wife Barbara, Bob is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Robert J. Olayos Jr. of Meriden; Michael A. and Fatima Olayos of Portland, and his grandson, Michael A. Olayos Jr. of Portland; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Janice Cotrona, Doris Zimmitti, and Janet (Mrs. Joseph) Cotrona; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Stephen Olayos.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. ext., on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will begin in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.
