Panhandler Assaulted Manager After Being Told To Leave Store: Meriden Police

MERIDEN, CT — A panhandler is accused of assaulting the store manager of C-Town after being told to leave the property Monday in Meriden, according to police.

Police responded to C-Town at 160 Colony St. on Feb. 27 on the report of an assault. Officers found that the store manager had been receiving complaints from customers about a man who was panhandling in the parking lot, according to police.

Police said the panhandler, identified as Oscar Alfonso Ramirez, was asked to leave the property and when he refused the interaction became heated.

Ramirez is accused of spitting at the manager and a fight ensued, according to police.

During the fight, police said Ramirez used a “box cutter-type razor” to cut the manager several times. Ramirez was also found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Newington in an unrelated matter, according to police.

The razor was seized and Ramirez was taken into custody, police said.

Ramirez was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, first-degree criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
