Pedestrian, 87, Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle At Stop & Shop

The woman has died from injuries sustained in the accident, which occurred Thursday night in the area of Stop & Shop in Meriden.

MERIDEN, CT — The 87-year-old woman struck by a vehicle in the area of Stop & Shop in Meriden on Thursday night has died from her injuries, according to police. The woman has been identified as Maria Opalacz, 87, of Meriden.

Meriden Police responded to the area of Stop & Shop, 455 Broad Street, at about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night on the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Arriving officers found Opalacz lying in the middle lane of Broad Street.

A Ford Edge operated by Charles Crook was traveling north on Broad Street when it struck Opalacz in the middle lane, according to police. Opalacz was taken to Hartford Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She suffered injuries to her legs, midsection and head, according to police.

Crook remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
