Police: Meriden Man Led Police on Chase in Middlefield with Baby in the Front Seat

The chase only ended after the man crashed into a cruiser.

A Meriden man suspected of committing an armed robbery is also accused of leading police on a chase through Middlefield while he had a baby unsecured in the front seat.

The chase came to a stop after he slammed into a cruiser, according to the New Haven Register.

Police tried to stop Richard Stevenson, 25, of Maple Street in Meriden, but he allegedly took-off.

The baby was found near a large knife in the vehicle. Stevenson was charged with reckless driving, eluding police, risk of injury to a child, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree reckless endangerment. A robbery in Wallingford may be related.
