Popular New Milford Restaurant Set To Close After 25 Years

A New Milford restaurant will close its doors permanently at the start of 2023.

NEW MILFORD, CT — The Cookhouse, a New Milford staple for 25 years, will close its doors come 2023. The owners said the establishment never really recovered after COVID, according to The Danbury News-Times.

The restaurant posted an announcement on Facebook on Dec. 14 saying that they would close New Year's Day 2023.

"We have had 25 wonderful years serving New Milford, Litchfield County & greater Connecticut, but our business has never recovered from COVID," they wrote. "We are incredibly thankful for our wonderful staff who helped us through the toughest period in restaurant industry history. Please come join us to say farewell. Profits between now & NYE will go to them."

The post garnered 169 reactions and 75 comments. One patron wrote: "This is in incredibly heartbreaking!! Definitely our favorite restaurant around! So sad to read this."

The restaurant, which can seat up to 250 people, was among the first barbecue establishments to open in Connecticut.

The Cookhouse had been doing well up until COVID hit. The owner told The Danbury News-Times that they went from a staff of 30 down to three.
