Retaining Wall Rehabilitation Project Planned In Meriden

MERIDEN, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation is developing plans to rehabilitate or replace two retaining walls on Route 70 (River Road) in Meriden.

The project involves the replacement of one retaining wall with a new structure and the rehabilitation of another one located along Route 70 in Meriden.

“The roadway will also be slightly widened to accommodate 2-foot shoulders and 11-foot lanes,” according to a news release. “The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in 2028, with construction anticipated to start in 2029, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits.”

The project will be undertaken with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds, according to the news release.

“It is CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken,” the news release states. “It is important that the community share its concerns with CTDOT to assist in the project's development.”
