SUV Stolen With Baby, 8 Months, Inside: Meriden Police
The 8-month-old was found safe and was reunited with her family after police found the stolen vehicle.
MERIDEN, CT — An 8-month-old baby was inside a vehicle that was stolen late Saturday night in Meriden, according to police.
Police said the child was uninjured and slept through the incident and was reunited with her family.
The incident began unfolding around 10:45 p.m. on April 30 when police responded to Liberty Bank at 852 East Main St. on the report of a stolen vehicle. Police were told that a silver 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was taken while an 8-month-old child was inside.

The direction the Jeep was heading in wasn’t known, according to police.
An officer who was traveling on East Main Street in the area of I-91 saw a silver SUV on the northbound side with its hazard lights on in the breakdown lane, according to police.

Police said the officer identified the vehicle as the stolen Jeep and the child was found inside sleeping in her car seat.
“A welfare check was conducted on the child who remained asleep during this incident,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The child was uninjured and reunited with the family. Due to the unknown location of suspects, an area perimeter was established and the Middletown Police Department responded with a K-9 and drone unit.”
Police weren’t able to find any suspects.
