Ted's Steamed Cheeseburger Named One of the 'Top 40 Best Burgers in America'

The famous Meriden burger place, often lauded for its unique cuisine, gains another accolade from TheDailyMeal.com.

Whether you choose to just have the steamed meat and cheese, or go all out and add bacon, veggies and avocado mayo, there's one thing that most people agree on: Ted's Steamed Cheese Burgers are culinary delight in Meriden and central Connecticut.

And, according to TheDailyMeal.com, Ted's is one of the best burgers in the country.

The steamed cheeseburger was listed at No. 32 on the site's 'Top 40 Burgers in America' list. Only one other Connecticut joint made it on the list: The Original Burger at Louis' Lunch in New Haven.

Here's what The Daily Meal had to say about Ted's famous burgers:

"Steamed meat? Yep. Steamed Cheddar cheese, too. Cooked in custom-designed steam boxes, the burgers, served on kaiser-roll-like buns, lose very little bulk while cooking and, need we say, stay very moist. The steamed cheese is spooned over the patties and cloaks them thickly. Add lettuce and tomato (or complimentary sautéed onions and/or mushrooms) and you've got an unusual, and unusually good, burger."

Ted's, which opened in Meriden in 1959, has since expanded into other locations, including the Berlin Turnpike and Cromwell. The restaurant has been lauded by other groups, as the steamed cheeseburger has appeared on shows on The Travel Channel and The Food Network.
