Teen Charged with Arson in Meriden Fire that Killed Family Dog

A family of four was displaced in the fire, which occurred late Thursday night.

Meriden police have charged a teenager with arson for the late Thursday night fire on Tumblebrook Road that displaced a family of four and killed the family dog.

The Meriden Record-Journal reports the teen told police she started the fire when she lit candles and a piece of paper on fire inside the home.

She dropped the paper to the ground and told police she thought it was put out, but instead, the living room couch caught on fire and it quickly spread from there, according to the Record-Journal.
