Update: GoFundMe Created for Funeral Expenses of Meriden Children

The two children were killed and four others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Sunday.

Update: A GoFundMe has been started by a family member to help pay for funeral expenses.

Original story: Two children from Meriden died after a crash in Bristol.

Police responded to the accident Sunday morning on Middle Street. A Nissan Sentra crossed the double yellow line and hit a Ford Windstar head-on.

Veronica Martinez, 7, and Yvette Martinez, 4, were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. They were in the Sentra.

The girls’ mother Kayla Torres, 31, of Meriden was driving. She and Miguel Melendez, 35, of New Britain were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Ford passengers Michael Luponio of Southington and Jonathan Oquendo of Waterbury sustained injuries and are in stable condition. They had serious injuries. A third passenger may have been in the vehicle, but possibly fled on foot, police said.

The investigation is still active, police said. No enforcement action has been taken as of Monday morning.
