What is it to be strangers in a strange land? What if that land were our own nation, and we realized slowly but surely that we feel like strangers here. What if we look through the lens of our neighbors who were not born here—many of them citizens, and many immigrants who have risked everything to come here. What does it mean to welcome the stranger? What are the implications of turning that stranger into a fearsome “other?” Do we, as Rev. Dr. William Barber proclaims, have “a heart problem?” Let’s explore these questions as they breathe through the choices so many of us will make in just a few weeks.
