Update: Man Flown to Hospital After Serious Meriden ATV Crash

The accident happened Wednesday evening and the man sustained serious injuries.

An ATV operator sustained serious injuries in Meriden on Wednesday.

Emergency responders went to the scene at South Mountain Road around 8:15 p.m., said Lt. Thomas Cossette.

A white ATV was stopped near a guardrail on the road. The operator, a 27-year-old male, was traveling east on the road. He failed to negotiate a turn and struck the guardrail.

He was ejected and thrown down a 20 foot embankment. He called his wife who then called 911.

It took police about 20 minutes to locate him due to the remoteness of the area.

He was flown by Lifestar helicopter to Hartford Hospital after he sustained injuries to his back, pelvis and arm.

He is listed in serious but stable condition. He was wearing a helmet.
