Police Seek 'Person of Interest' in Suspicious Fire at Violi's Restaurant

Meriden Police need your help in identifying this man seen walking outside the Hunter's Golf Course restaurant shortly before the fire broke out.

As investigators continue to determine the exact cause of a fire that damaged Violi’s Restaurant at the Hunter’s Golf Course early Monday morning, Meriden Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man seen in security video just before the fire broke out.

According to a statement released by Meriden Police, the fire was reported about 3 a.m. June 2 — at the 688 Westfield Road restaurant.

At the time of the fire, the city fire marshal suspected that the cause of the fire was a faulty mechanical issue with one of the golf carts that had been charging along side of the building. However, Meriden Police Detectives reviewed the content of video captured from an exterior camera.

Police say "A suspicious male was observed in the footage. This male could be seen carrying what may be a gas can in his hand along with another item. He is wearing a baseball style cap and glasses and can be seen holding an item up to his facial area which could possibly be a cell phone."

Police are asking if anyone recognizes "this person of interest," to contact Detective Gonzalez at 203-630-6318.
