Woman Accused Of Defrauding Elderly Relative: Meriden Police

Police said the woman used the relative's personal information to open several credit cards and used the information to buy a vehicle online

MERIDEN, CT — A woman is accused of defrauding an elderly relative over a period of time, according to police.

Police began investigating a complaint of identity theft of an elderly person in December, according to officials.

Tyana Stimpson is accused of using the family member’s personal information to open several credit cards in their name, according to police.

Police said Stimpson ran up the balance on the credit cards and didn’t pay.

“Stimpson also used the information to buy a vehicle online through Carvana, utilizing the family member’s information to secure the loan,” police wrote in a news release. “All of this was done without with family member’s knowledge.”

After being interviewed by a detective, police said Stimpson then “sold the car she fraudulently secured funding for, to another party.”

“When she sold the vehicle she provided the buyer with a forged Arizona Title and Lien release,” police wrote in the news release. “The buyer of the vehicle was unable to register the vehicle and came to the Meriden Police Department to file a complaint.”

Stimpson turned herself in to Meriden police on May 12 on two arrest warrants.

Stimpson was charged with third-degree larceny, second-degree forgery, and forged motor vehicle title. She was released after posting a $25,000 bond with a court date of May 26, according to state judicial records.

She was also charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery and false statement to procure issuance or loading of a payment card. She was released after posting a $25,000 bond on those charges with a court date of May 26.
