The U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 rankings released this week name the top high schools in Connecticut, and Middletown is not among them. Reviewed were 21,035 U.S. public high schools and 39 state schools made the list out of 196 in the state.
Three of the four tested ratios in Middletown are near the state average: the student-to teacher ratio of 14-to-1, students' college readiness; and math proficiency is 74 percent.
The district's reading proficiency, however, is 70 percent, which is below the state average.
Connecticut has 11 gold medal schools, 24 silver medal schools and four bronze medal schools.
Students in Connecticut are assessed via the Connecticut Academic Performance Test, which gauges their skills in math, science, reading and writing. Particularly ambitious students can earn both high school and college credit through a concurrent enrollment program at the University of Connecticut.
