MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown police have made an arrest in a Wednesday night shooting that turned fatal.
Nygell Smikle, 24, has been charged with murder, carrying a handgun without a permit, first-degree reckless endangerment, and the unlawful discharge of a firearm.
He was held overnight on a $2 million bond and was to appear in Middlesex Superior Court Thursday.
At about 8 p.m. Wednesday, a heavy police presence converged on the Cooley Avenue area of Middletown after a shooting incident, authorities said.
Middletown police were advising residents to avoid the area while detectives conducted their investigation and officers secured the scene.

Middletown police, Hartford police and the Greater Hartford Auto Theft Task Force teamed up for the investigation, which led to the arrest.
