MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown police Wednesday formally announced the arrest of Christopher Lane, 29, in connection with a shooting reported May 19 in the area of Westlake Drive and Forest Glen Circle.
The arrest followed a multi-day investigation that led detectives to Poughkeepsie, New York.
Police said the investigation found that Lane discharged a firearm multiple times during a domestic violence-related incident before fleeing into a wooded area near Westlake Drive and Smith Street. The intended victim was not struck, according to police, but the gunfire damaged nearby property and residences while several pedestrians and occupied vehicles were in the area.
Police said local, state and federal law enforcement agencies took part in the investigation. Detectives developed information placing Lane in Poughkeepsie, and, on May 22, Lane was taken into custody at the Hyatt Place Hotel without incident, according to the department.
Police said Lane was found in possession of a handgun and live ammunition at the time of his arrest. The department said he is expected to face charges including criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and multiple weapons-related charges.
The case involved assistance from the FBI New Haven CAST Team, Connecticut State Police, the FBI's NY Violent Crime Task Force, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and Hartford Police Department.
Middletown police are asking anyone with additional information to contact the department's Major Investigations Unit at 860-638-4140.
