MIDDLETOWN, CT — A three-way stop will take effect at the intersection of Silver Street and Eastern Drive on July 31 as the city "seeks to improve safety and traffic flow."
The change will add a stop sign for eastbound traffic on Silver Street, requiring drivers to come to a complete stop before entering the intersection, according to a city announcement released Wednesday.
Traffic traveling northbound and southbound on Eastern Drive already stops at the intersection and will continue to do so. The intersection will not become a four-way stop because the downhill grade on Silver Street is too steep to support one, the city said.
The new traffic pattern takes effect Friday, July 31.
The city's Public Works Department will install the new stop sign along with advance warning signs before the change takes effect. The Middletown Police Department plans to monitor the intersection during the transition to help ensure drivers comply with the new traffic pattern.
City officials urged motorists to use caution as drivers adjust to the new three-way stop configuration.
