MIDDLETOWN, CT — The city of Middletown has completed several road improvement projects and is preparing to begin paving work on additional streets as part of its approximately $2 million Phase I Road Program, city officials announced.
The Department of Public Works said the program, which began June 11, is expected to continue throughout the summer. The initiative includes roadway repairs and preventive maintenance designed to improve the condition and longevity of Middletown's municipal streets.
Officials said the city is using a combination of road rehabilitation techniques, including milling and paving and hot in-place recycling, a process that recycles existing asphalt to extend pavement life.
Among the completed milling and paving projects is Jack English Drive, where final pavement and new curbing have been installed. City officials said the roadway has been a long-standing infrastructure project.
The city also completed its initial list of hot in-place recycling projects and expanded the work to include additional sections of South Bartholomew Road, Margarite Road Extension and Bell Street.
Completed hot in-place recycling projects include:
The city said those roads will receive a final surface treatment before the fall.
Over the next several weeks, crews are scheduled to mill and pave the following streets:
The city said it will continue providing updates on construction schedules and any traffic impacts as work progresses. Residents can find additional information on the city's website.
