Kidnapping Charges Filed After Passenger Jumps From Fleeing Vehicle In Middletown: Police (dailyvoice.com) — Middletown residents saw a routine traffic stop on Main and Court streets turn into a dangerous chase that led to kidnapping and other serious charges, police said. A passenger reportedly jumped from the moving car to escape, several vehicles were hit as the driver sped out of town, and the suspect is now held on high bonds.
2. Man trapped waist-deep in Connecticut River mud rescued by chance, officials say (nhregister.com) — Middletown firefighters on a routine Connecticut River boat check happened upon a man trapped waist-deep in mud near River Road and pulled him out before he sank further. The resident was taken to Middlesex Hospital for observation, and officials are urging people to be cautious when walking alone along the riverbanks at low tide.
3. Bicyclist hurt in hit-and-run on Silver Street in Middletown (wfsb.com) — A bicyclist was seriously hurt Thursday afternoon in a hit-and-run at Silver Street and Eastern Drive in Middletown, and police are still looking for the white pickup that drove off toward Route 9 North. The rider, who suffered a head injury, is in stable condition at Hartford Hospital, and officers are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact Middletown police.
4. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library continues in Connecticut after her death (wfsb.com) — Families in Middletown can continue signing children under five up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library through Russell Library, which has already enrolled about 1,200 kids and distributed over 6,000 books locally. Despite Parton's recent death, library staff and United Way leaders say the free monthly book program will go on, keeping her literacy legacy alive for young Middletown readers.
5. Wethersfield police investigate gas station robbery (wfsb.com) — Middletown police sent a K9 unit to help Wethersfield officers search for a suspect who ripped a gold chain from a gas station clerk on Silas Deane Highway Wednesday night. The robber fled after pretending to make a purchase, and tracking efforts were unsuccessful, but no injuries were reported as detectives continue investigating.
