Middletown Health Department Offering Free Tobacco Cessation Classes

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Middletown Health Department will be offering free tobacco cessation classes beginning Sept. 28 for adults seeking to quit smoking or other tobacco use.

The Freedom From Smoking program will be held virtually over several weeks. Participants will learn about preparing to quit, medications that may increase the likelihood of success, lifestyle changes, coping with stress, avoiding weight gain and strategies for remaining tobacco-free.

The schedule includes:

• Session 1: Sept. 28, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
• Session 2: Oct. 5, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
• Session 3: Oct. 12, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
• Session 4: Oct. 19, 4:30 to 6 p.m. — Quit Day
• Session 5: Oct. 21, 4:30 to 6 p.m. — 48-hour follow-up
• Session 6: Oct. 26, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
• Session 7: Nov. 2, 4:30 to 6 p.m.
• Session 8: Nov. 9, 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The department said the program is open to people 18 and older. Insurance and Middletown residency are not required.

The program is supported by the Preventive Health and Human Services Block Grant, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
