MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man facing a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of a woman in Middletown remained in custody on a $3 million bond Thursday after being shot, wounded and charged by police and arraigned in court a day earlier, judicial system records show.
Barrington Oneil Brown is due back in court on Oct. 13, judicial system records show.
Brown's case unraveled when Middletown police responded to a call at about 3:23 p.m. Tuesday at a residence in the West Lake section of the city after receiving a report about a suspicious death. Officers found a woman deceased at the scene with a gunshot wound and "other injuries," police said.
Detectives with the Middletown Police Department's Investigative Services Division identified the 43-year-old Brown, of Middletown as a suspect, according to police.
Brown was tracked throughout the evening, and Middletown police issued a regional radio broadcast with information about a vehicle believed to be involved in the homicide.
The vehicle's registration was later detected by an automated plate reader in West Hartford, police said. West Hartford officers located the vehicle near New Park Avenue and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle fled, police said.
Officers deployed tire-deflation devices as the vehicle continued east on Flatbush Avenue into Hartford.
The vehicle eventually stopped near 50 Flatbush Ave. in Hartford, where an exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect — Brown — and West Hartford officers, according to police.
Brown and "another person" were struck by gunfire and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
No West Hartford officers were injured, police said.
Brown was taken into custody and initially transported to a medical facility, police said. He was then transported to court later Wednesday.
In addition to murder, Brown has been charged with second-degree stalking and the illegal discharge of a firearm.
