MIDDLETOWN, CT — A dog that escaped from her new home in Massachusetts and disappeared for 11 days was rescued in Middletown after being found injured, according to Middletown Animal Control.
Robyn originally came from Texas and was transferred from a shelter to Massachusetts for adoption. She escaped from her new home less than a day after arriving and began running, according to animal control.
Her owner worked with a Massachusetts group to search for her, but Robyn eventually disappeared without any sightings for 11 days.
The owner later recognized Robyn in a social media post from Middletown Animal Control about a loose, injured dog. Animal control said Robyn had traveled about 50 miles from where she went missing.
Officials believe Robyn may have been struck by a vehicle, resulting in an injury to her hip.
Middletown Animal Control worked with the CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteer Network, along with residents and neighbors, to establish feeding stations equipped with cameras. Once Robyn was consistently eating at one location, rescuers set a trap and captured her.
Robyn was taken to a veterinary emergency facility for treatment and underwent hip surgery Monday, according to animal control. Officials said they are hopeful she will make a full recovery.
Her owner has been present throughout the rescue and treatment, animal control said.
Officials thanked residents who called with information and shared Ring camera videos and photographs that helped locate Robyn and bring her to safety.
