MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Halloween crash left a vehicle into a house near the intersection of Vine and Cross streets in Middletown early Monday with the front end embedded in the building and the car precariously close to a gas line, according to Middletown fire officials.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 12:19 a.m. and found the vehicle approximately 20 feet from the road, with its front end buried in the side of the house.
The vehicle missed the building's gas service line by about 3 inches, officials said.
Firefighters secured the vehicle and confirmed that no one was hurt in the home of the vehicle, officials said.
Despite a large number of Wesleyan University students on nearby sidewalks because of the Halloween weekend, no pedestrians were hurt, fire officials said.
Emergency crews remained at the scene for several hours while gas and electrical service were secured and the vehicle was safely removed, fire officials said.
Wesleyan University arranged for the home's residents to be relocated, fire officials said.
The Middletown Building Department has condemned the house.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Middletown Police Department. See images of the crash here.
