Original Founder Gives $10,000 Gift for Endowment Bearing Her Name

Middletown, CT:

On Thursday, September 13, 2018 MARC Community Resources (MARC) received a $10,000 gift to its newly opened and named, Rene and Burt Bolt Endowment Fund. The gift came directly from none other than the original founder, Rene Bolt, who started the organization by gathering together eight other families with children who had Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in 1955.

“Rene and I had been having conversations surrounding our Founders Event on Wednesday, September 26th, and I was surprised and thrilled by Rene’s generosity. We are incredibly grateful.”, states Linda Iovanna, MARC’s President and CEO. Rene stated she “was touched by Brother Houlihan’s work, devotion and generosity towards MARC, and that her family and her are pleased to be able to add to The Rene and Burt Bolt Endowment Fund.” Rene quickly points out that as MARC’s first president, she had a lot of help from the other eight mothers who attended MARC’s first meeting back in 1955.

The gift comes after the finalizing of the endowment fund started with a gift from another staple in the MARC Community, Brother John Robert Houlihan. Brother Houlihan is the founder of the student service program, Middlesex Youth ARC (MYARC), which continues today through consistent partnership with students from Mercy and Xavier High School.

Family members of Rene Bolt will be present for MARC’s 2nd Annual Founding Families & Friends Reception on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018, at the Community Health Center Rooftop Garden.
