2-Alarm Fire Damages Commercial Building In Milford

MILFORD, CT — A two-alarm fire damaged a commercial building in the village of Devon, the Fire Department said.

At 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to 192 Bridgeport Ave. for a fire. Crews from the Naugatuck Avenue fire station arrived on the scene within two minutes.

The building had heavy smoke from the front and fire showing from the rear as crews began to attack the fire, officials said. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack with fire hoses while additional units went to the roof to ventilate the building by cutting holes in the roof, officials said.

A second alarm was initiated which led Stratford and West Shore Fire Departments to cover the fire stations.

The building was built in 1910 and had three different occupants. All three stores sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, officials said. The fire was declared under control at 10:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Milford Fire Department Fire Marshall.
