2 Displaced When Fire Breaks Out At Milford Home

The blaze started in the home's basement early Friday morning, according to fire officials.

MILFORD, CT — Two people escaped a home after a fire broke out in the basement early Friday morning, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded at midnight to a report of a blaze at a Snow Apple Lane home.

Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the home. The homeowner told firefighters that everyone was out of the house.

"Although the fire attack was very labor intensive, the fire was quickly knocked down and confined to the basement," fire officials said.

The homeowners had been alerted to the fire by smoke detectors while they were sleeping. They were able to exit the smoky home.

"A stark reminder that smoke detectors save lives," fire officials said.

No injuries were reported.

Two people and a dog were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting.

The fire remains under investigation.
