3rd Person Charged In Staged Armed Robbery In Milford: Police

Three people are accused of staging an armed robbery of a gas station that resulted in the theft of more than $8,000, according to police.

MILFORD, CT — A third person has been arrested in connection with the staged armed robbery of a Citgo gas station that resulted in the theft of more than $8,000 earlier this year in Milford, according to police.

Jerome Ruffin, 30, of Center Street in West Haven, was arrested Saturday on a warrant. He is accused of being the getaway driver in the staged robbery, according to police.

Milford police responded to the Citgo gas station at 222 Broad Street around 6:10 p.m. on May 24 on the report of an armed robbery.

The store clerk, Jamie Darouse, told police that a man wearing sunglasses, a hat, and a face mask entered the store and gave her a note demanding all the money and mentioned that he had a loaded gun, according to officials.

Police said Darouse turned over all the money in the register, along with deposit money, for a total of more than $8,000. The robber then left as a passenger in a vehicle that was parked outside on the street, according to police.

“After an investigation was conducted by Detective Warwick, to include interviews, reviewing video surveillance, and other evidence it was determined that Jamie Darouse along with Khari Ruffin and Jerome Ruffin staged the robbery to steal money from the business,” police wrote in a news release.

Jerome Ruffin was identified as the getaway driver and an arrest warrant was issued, police said. He was charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. He was released after posting a $75,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 25.

Khari Ruffin, 19, of Juniper Ridge Road in Waterbury, turned himself in on Aug. 13 in connection with his role in the robbery. He is accused of being the robber, according to police. He was charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.

Darouse, 31, of Center Street in West Haven, was arrested Aug. 18 and charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, falsely reporting an incident and false statement. She was released after posting a $10,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 20, according to state judicial records.
