6th Ct. Continental Regiment Encampment

Zadock Hawkins A New Milfred resident served!

A modern-day re-enactment of the 6th Connecticut Regiment was held Saturday August 12th.

Zadock Hawkins, A New Milfred resident served in the Colonial Army in the Revolutionary War. Zadock joined the Colonial Army at the first call for troops in Litchfield, Connecticut, serving under Benjamin Hinman in the Fourth Connecticut Regiment. No doubt this call was in response to the clash between the Colonial Minutemen and the British Redcoats in the Battle of Lexington and Concord at the start of the Revolutionary War on April 19th 1775. During this tour he marched on both Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point in May of 1775 and most likely participated in the capture of these sites by Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. He served in H Company of the 6th Connecticut Regiment of foot under Capt. Jonas Prentice, commanded by Lt. Col. David Dimon under Col. Return Jonathan Meigs. Died in service on Oct. 20th 1777.
